Berivan Çevik

About

Berivan Çevik (b. 1995, Istanbul) completed her education at the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Munzur University, graduating at the top of her class.

Her artistic practice explores the relationship between space, the figure, and memory. In her work, she treats space as a carrier of cultural memory, belief, and personal experience, interpreting spatial traces specific to the geography of Tunceli and the Alevi belief system through an intuitive and layered narrative.

The female figure also constitutes a significant focal point of her work. Particularly in her recent pieces, she establishes an emotional connection between the figure and the atmosphere by addressing women's inner worlds through themes of melancholy, silence, and everyday life experiences. Employing a combination of canvas and digital production techniques, the artist aims to create transitions between traditional painting and the possibilities of digital expression.

She has created book cover designs based on digital transformations of her works on canvas; these designs have been published and featured across various platforms.

She continues her independent artistic practice, developing new forms of expression at the intersection of the figure, space, and cultural memory.

Berivan Çevik’s artistic practice unfolds around a field of inquiry shaped by experiences spanning from the intense urban life of Istanbul to the geography of Tunceli, where her roots lie. This geographical shift has played a pivotal role in steering the artist toward concepts of place, memory, and belonging.

Not limiting her work to a single theme, Çevik explores the memory of place, the invisible stories embedded in everyday objects, and the traces of cultural memory, while also treating the female figure as a significant medium of expression. The inner worlds of women, melancholy, silence, and the quest for identity are among the recurring themes in her work.

The artist invites the viewer to engage with their own experiences—sometimes by detaching an object from its context, and at other times by placing a figure within ambiguous, timeless atmospheres. The transitions she creates between traditional painting and digital production form a vital part of her narrative language.

Çevik’s artistic approach takes shape as an ever-evolving research practice that establishes a connection between the silent language of space and the narrative power of the figure, aiming to make the layers of memory visible.
